Symbiotic Interaction is a body interface that proposes a symbiotic relationship between plants and humans from an intimate and personalized perspective.
Plants constantly perceive the conditions of their environment and respond to variations in light, temperature, humidity, and other environmental stimuli. However, many of these responses remain beyond the reach of our senses. Symbiotic Interaction takes this perceptual difference between species as a starting point to explore how technology can act as a mediator and expand our ability to perceive signals from other living beings.
The work integrates several plants connected to sensors based on plant electrophysiology techniques, which record variations in their electrical activity in real time. The data obtained is processed by a system specifically developed for the project and transmitted to a wearable interface worn by the participant.
Through changes in colour, sound, and graphical representations, the interface translates these variations into stimuli that can be perceived by the user. The simultaneous observation of the plants, the environment, and the signals received makes it possible to establish associations and identify patterns in their behaviour, progressively generating an experience of communication based on perception and interpretation.
Symbiotic Interaction thus approaches the body as a space of encounter between organisms and technology. The work incorporates signals from plants into our own perceptual field, expanding the sensory possibilities of the human body. Technology functions as a sensory extension that makes normally invisible processes accessible and opens up the possibility of imagining other forms of interspecies relationship, attention, and coexistence.
