Exploring the body as an interface through wearable technologies capable of expanding the perception of the environment.
In 2018, María Castellanos led Body and Environment: Introduction to Technological Interfaces, a workshop held at the Centro Cultural de España en México, in Mexico City, as part of the third edition of e-cuerpo. International Encounter on Art & Wearable Technology.
Developed over two days, the workshop offered a hands-on introduction to wearable technologies and the creation of body interfaces as tools for investigating the relationships between body, technology and environment. Through sensors, electronics and prototyping, participants explored the possibility of incorporating devices into the body capable of recording environmental information and generating new ways of perceiving phenomena that lie beyond the reach of human senses.
The workshop drew on Castellanos’ artistic research into sensory augmentation, cyborgs and wearable technologies. From this perspective, the body was approached as a space for experimentation and as an interface open to new forms of information exchange with the environment.
The activity was part of a programme dedicated to exploring the relationships between art, the body and wearable technologies, bringing together workshops, lectures, conversations and creative experiences around the critical and creative possibilities of technologies incorporated into the body.
